Objectives

Understand the concepts and principles as well as the different forms of symmetry and how they relate to communication and the creation of visual messages. Begin to understand the need to and the means to create balance in a composition with simple graphic forms. Understand how to capitalize on the strengths of symmetry to enhance your message and visual forms. To begin to understand how to incorporate type into compositions.

Details:

Create four separate “single” covers for the song”Breathe Me” by the artist Sia from simple geometric forms in which you utilize the four types of symmetry.

Using only black and white (no shades of gray) and simple geometric forms (line, shape, point) in IIIusm.tor, create four CD. Single covers for the song. In the end, you should have four compositions-one in which axial/bilateral symmetry is dominant, one in which translational symmetry is dominant, one in which rotational symmetry is dominant, and one in which asymmetry is dominant. All of them should be balanced compositions.
