A) Using the lyrics from your chosen song, design a 17”x40” poster that uses typography to convey a visual manifestation of the song and/or your relationship to it. Important things to consider in your design are: the relationship between the poster and the meaning in your written essay; the expressive qualities of typography; the scale of the poster. Try to stay away from being too literal: your design should evoke the spirit of the song/essay without illustrating it literally. Constraints: the poster is black and white only; you may use one type family and ruled lines. The poster will be printed on the self-service plotter on white Stonehenge paper.
B) After you have revised your written essays, you will typeset them in a 4.5”x7” saddle-stiched booklet. The typeface for the booklet must be the same as the typeface you chose for your poster. You will be responsible for designing the cover and guts. Your design should include: a page numbering system, title page, running heads, section dividers, and a colophon. The number of pages is up to you, but must be between 12 and 36 numbered pages.
